Structure of the University Safety Council

The Early Intervention Team's main function is to meet with students who are showing signs of difficulty with university life and who have been referred by faculty or staff. These meetings are non-disciplinary and are intended to offer support and connect students with resources that can help them become healthier and more productive members of the community. Students may also make referrals through a faculty or staff member. Contact the Early Intervention Team for more information.

The Threat Assessment Team consists of multi-disciplinary University officials responsible for conducting formal threat assessments on faculty, staff, and students that present a risk to self or others. These teams may be activated independently, or at the request of the Risk Management Committee. Beginning in 2010, the Team will assess human-caused threats to the University at-large. Contact the University Police Department for more information on the Threat Assessment Team.

The CARE Team is focused on individual(s) that may pose a risk to themselves or others. Through collaborative partnerships of diverse University agencies, the Risk Management Committee assesses risks and tasks associated teams to follow-up, if necessary. Contact the Office of the Dean of Students for more information on the CARE Team.

The Emergency Management Task Force plans for and responds to crises involving the University. This task is accomplished through an innovative and comprehensive emergency management, business continuity and disaster recovery planning process. The Task Force coordinates the organizational resources of the University during crisis response through the University's Emergency Operations Center. Contact the Emergency Management Task Force for more information.

The Occupational Safety and Health Committee encourages involvement of all faculty, staff, and students at the non-management and management levels in the ongoing responsibility of providing a safe work and learning environment. The committee also analyzes workplace-related injuries and makes recommendations for corrective actions. Contact the Occupational Safety and Health Committee for more information.
